Materials

Insulated steel: our most common recommendation for Minneapolis and St. Paul homes. It holds up to hard cold, runs quieter and resists dents better than thin steel.

Non-insulated steel: an affordable, low-maintenance choice for a detached or unheated garage.

Composite: the look of wood with far less upkeep and good resistance to moisture and rot.

Aluminum and glass: a light, modern look that suits wide or contemporary doors, with less insulation than steel.

Styles

Traditional raised-panel sectional doors are the most common and work with standard openers. Insulation

Insulation is rated by R-value, and higher is better. Single-layer doors have none, while double- and triple-layer doors sandwich foam between steel skins. For an attached garage that shares a wall with a living space, or a garage you use as a workshop or gym, an insulated door cuts heat loss, softens outside noise and protects the springs and opener from temperature stress.

Sizes

Standard single-car doors are 8x7, 9x7 or 10x7 feet, and standard doubles are 16x7 or 18x7. Taller 8-foot doors are popular for trucks and lifted SUVs. If your opening is not a standard size, we measure it and order a door built to fit.

Hanging the panels is only part of the job; setting the tracks, winding the springs to the right tension and balancing the door is work for a trained technician.
